Swaziland Travel Information
The Kingdom of Swaziland is a landlocked country in southern Africa.
It is bordered on three sides by South Africa,
but also has a border with Mozambique.
As of
2009,
the population of the country was estimated at 1,185,000.
There country has two capitals:
- Lobamba is the traditional capital
and remains the legislative capital include the seat of parliament.
It also contains the residence of the Queen Mother, who is the joint
head of state.
- Mbabne is the largest city (estimated population 95,000 as of
2007)
and administrative capital.
Swaziland's economy is a mix of services (the largest sector by far),
agriculture, forestry, mining, and manufacturing, however most of the population
is engaged in subsistence agriculture. The country has economy links
to South Africa, and most imports and exports
are from/to South Africa. The currency,
the Lilangeni, is pegged to the South African Rand,
and remittances from workers in South Africa
also pay an important role in the economy.
