Malaysia Travel Information

Malaysia Flag Malaysia is a country in southeastern Asia. It is divided by the South China Sea into two main regions:
  • Peninsula Malaysia (Malay: Semenanjung Malaysia), also known as West Malaysia occupies the southern part of the Malay Peninsula and shares a land border with Thailand to the North. To the South is the island nation of Singapore. To the West lies the Strait of Malacca, and to the East, the South China Sea.

  • Malaysian Borneo, which borders Brunei and Indonesia, and consists of the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak (which are both on the island of Borneo), as well as the Federal Territory of Labuan, which is a group of seven islands off the coast of Borneo, the largest of these being Labuan.
As of 2009, Malaysia had a population of 28,310,000. The capital and largest city, Kuala Lumpur, as of 2009, had a population of 1,809,699, with a total of about 7.2 million people living in the city and surrounding metropolitan area. Although Kuala Lumpur remains the national capital, because of congestion and overcrowding, since 1999, many administrative functions have been moved to Putrajaya which is a planned garden city named after the first Malaysian Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra.
