Senegal Travel Information
The Republic of Senegal (French: Republique du Sénégal)
is a country in West Africa. It is borded by
Guinea,
Guinea-Bissau,
Mali,
Mauritania, as well almost completely
surrounding The Gambia.
Senegal has a coastline on the Atlantic, and gets it names name from
the Sénégal River which borders the country to the North and East.
As of 2007, Senegal had an estimated population of 13,711,597. The country's largest city and capital is Dakar, with a population of over 1 million, and total population of around 2.4 million people living it the city's metropolitan area. Dakar is famous as major regional port, and is the westernmost city on the African mainland.
