Mexico Travel Information

Mexico Flag Mexico (Spanish: México), known in full as the United Mexican States (Spanish: Estados Unidos Mexicanos), is a country located in the North American continent, lying to the South of the United States of America. Apart from the USA in the North, Mexico also has southern land borders with Belize and Guatemala. The country has two coastlines, the East coast lying on the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico, and the West coast touching the Pacific Ocean including the Gulf of California.

As of 2007, Mexico's estimated population was 108,700,891, making it the most populous Spanish-speaking nation in the world.

About 19.2 million people live in Mexico's largest city, Greater Mexico City (Spanish: Zona Metropolitana de Valle de México), which is in fact the most populous city in the western hemisphere, and second most populous in the world (after Tokyo, Japan), as well as being the site of Mexico's national capital.

Mexico also includes many other cities, including nine with population over 1 million, and over seventy cities with populations of more than 100,000 people.

One Hundred & One Beautiful Small Towns in Mexico broadens the successful One Hundred & One Towns series with a tour through the virgin coastal hamlets, sun-kissed terra-cotta villages, and lush green hilltop towns that abound in Mexico. This is the armchair traveler’s escape and the serious tourist’s companion, featuring exceptional photography referencing a rich cultural background steeped in ancient Mayan folklore and religious tradition. This book ventures through the countryside providing in-depth histories of the smaller, less trodden towns that speckle Mexico’s varied terrain, and introduces readers to the sights, sounds, and scents that are all a part of Mexico’s powerful allure.
