The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
is the largest Arab country in the Middle East, and occupies
the bulk of the A
Arabian Peninisula. It borders
Iraq,
Jordan,
Kuwait,
Oman,
Qatar,
the United Arab Emirates, and
Yemen,
and is connected to the island nation of
Bahrain by the King Fahd Causeway.
Saudi Arabia contains Mecca and Medina, the two holiest places in Islam, and as a result is sometimes known as "The Land of the Two Holy Mosques". As of 2009, the population of Saudi Arabia was estimated as being 28,686,633, including about 5.5 million resident foreigners. The country's capital and largest city is Riyadh, which, as of 2009, had a population somewhere in the region of 6.2 to 6.6 million.
