Norway Travel Information
Norway is a country in nothern Europe.
It shares landborders with
Finland,
Russia,
and Sweden.
Additionally, Norwegian territory also includes
the islands of Jan Mayen, and the archipelago of islands in the Svalbard group,
both of which are in Arctic. Mainland Norway has a long coastline that faces the Atlantic
Ocean and the Barents Sea.
As of 2010,
Norway had an estimated population of 4,858,200. The country's capital and largest city, Oslo,
is home to nearly 600,00, with a total of more than 1.4 million in the Oslo metropolitan area.
Norway has one of the highest GDPs per capita in the world. The mixed economy combines free markets
with state activity in key sectors of the economy, and the country is also known for its generous
welfare state. Norway has twice in referendums rejected joining the European Union, but does
participate in the European Economic Area and trade freely with European Union member states.
