Vanuatu Flag The Republic of Vanuatu (French: République de Vanuatu) is an island nation in the southern Pacific Ocean. It consists of an archipelago of islands It consists of 32 atolls and one raised coral island, and straddles the Equator.

As of the 2009 census, the population of Vanuatu was estimated as being 243,304. The country's capital and largest city is Port Villa which is located on the island of Efate, and has a population of roughly 30,000.
