Gambia Travel Information


Gambia Flag The Republic of The Gambia is a country in western Africa. The Gambia generally follows the path of the Gambia River, and is completely surrounded by Senegal except for a short coastline on the Atlantic Ocean.

As of 2009, the population of Gambia was estimated as being 2,108,665. The country's capital is Banjul (formerly known as Bathurst) had a population of only 34,828 as of 2003, however it is part of a larger district, known as the Great Banjul Area which includes both the City of Banjul and Kanifing Municipal Council, which in 2003 had a total population of 357,238. The largest city in the Gambia is Serekunda (sometimes also spelled Serrekunda), which as of 2006, had a population of 335,733.
