Israel is a country in southwestern Asia.
Israel shares land borders with
Egypt,
Jordan,
Lebanon,
and
Syria, as well as having borders with
the partly Palestinian-administered
West Bank and
Gaza.
The country has two coasts:

The country, especially Jerusalem, is of course known for the number of religious sites it contains, and visitors to Israel will find religious sites that are important to Jews, Muslims, Christians, and followers of the Baha'i faith. Israel has an advanced economy with high GDP per capita and a free market orientation. Important industries include military equipment, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and software. In terms of agriculture, the country is almost self-sufficient in food (although it does import beef and grains), and exports fruit and vegetables. Tourism, including religious tourism, is also an important sector of the economy, but security problems have deterred an increasing number of tourists from visiting the country.
