The Republic of Belarus
is a landlocked country in eastern Europe.
It shares land borders with
Latvia,
Lithuania,
Poland,
Russia, and
Ukraine.
As of 2009, the population of Belarus was estimated as being 9,648,533. The country's capital and largest city is Minsk, which, as of 2007, had an estimated population of 1,830,700 Other important cities in Belarus include Brest, Grodno (Hrodna), Gomel (Homiel), Mogilev (Mahilyow) and Vitebsk (Viciebsk).
