Denmark Travel Information
The Kingdom of Denmark is a country principally located
in northern Europe. The Danish mainland, is a peninsula (Jutland)
bordered to the South by Germany, that lies between the Baltic Sea and North Sea.
The country also includes several islands in the Baltic Sea, a pair of which (Amager and Zealand), connected
by bridges, accommodate the Danish capital, Copenhagen.
Additionally, the Kingdom also incorporates two offshore territories, namely
the Faroe Islands and Greenland.
Both of these territories are represented in the Danish parliament, but also have considerable
autonomy, and have elected to opt-out of the European Union.
The total population of Denmark, as of 2007, was estimated at 5.5 million. About 1.8 million people live in or close to the Danish capital, Copenhagen. The economy of Denmark is modern and highly developed (although the economies of the Faroe Islands and Greenland are based on fisheries, and both require financial support from Denmark). Denmark (apart from the Faroe Islands and Greenland) is a member of the European Union, and of the European Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM), but at present Denmark has not joined the eurozone, and maintains its own currency, the Danish krone (Faroese króna in the Faroe Islands).
