The Republic of Cuba
(Spanish: República de Cuba)
is an island country located in the Caribbean Sea.
It lies to the South of the American
state of Florida, and consists of the the island of Cuba (Isla de la Juventud)
as well as several nearby archipelagos.
As of 2008, Cuba had an estimated population of 11,236,444. The capital and by far the largest city, Havana (Spanish: La Habana) as of 2009, had a population of 2,141,993. Other cities in Cuba with populations of over 100,000 include Bayamo, Camagüey, Ciego de Avila, Cienfuegos, Guantánamo, Holguin, Manzanillo, Matanzas, Pinar del Río, Santa Clara, Santiago de Cuba, and Victoria de Las Tunas.
