Slovenia Flag The Republic of Slovenia (Slovene: Republika Slovenija) is a country in central Europe. It is bordered by Austria, Croatia, Hungary, and Italy, as well as having a coast on the Adriatic Sea (an arm of the Mediterranean Sea).

As of 2009, the population of Slovenia was estimated to be 2,054,199. The country's capital and largest city is Ljubljana, which, as of 2009, had an estimated population of 280,000, with a total of about 550,000 people living in the combined city and surrounding metropolitan area.
